Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of football scholarships for his family as well as service in the local community. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on a Eufala farm. He played football with three of his brothers in Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi award as the nation's best lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. They also won two national championships. The National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in 1975. Selmon received a diploma as an educator. Lee Roy spent ten hours every week in volunteer work during his college years. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. Also, he began his career in the field of business. In 1988, he was an Account Relations officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There's no surprise that Lee Roy was honored when the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as one of the most prominent young men in the country. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and was weighing 256 pounds. He was captain of his college team in 1975. In 1993, he became the associate director of the University of South Florida. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Jr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
